Cane Commitment empowers students

Cane Commitment showcases the skills and experiences undergraduate students acquire in and outside of the classroom. It ensures that every University of Miami graduate is prepared to succeed in the dynamic workplace and diverse society of today and tomorrow. Students are empowered to cultivate essential competencies through a comprehensive blend of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. The University of Miami identified six competencies to foster lifelong professional development and personal growth.

Core Competencies

Actively participate in and contribute to the well-being of your community and society at large. Demonstrate responsibility, engagement, and a commitment to the public good.
Make decisions and take actions that are morally sound and aligned with ethical principles. This involves evaluating situations, considering the potential impact on all stakeholders, and choosing a course of action that upholds integrity, fairness, and respect for others.

Understand, communicate, and effectively interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Cultivate awareness, sensitivity, and respect for cultural differences, and develop the ability to navigate and bridge these differences in various social, educational, and professional settings.
